Cost Comparison
In clinics that participate with insurance companies, physical therapists are required to see 2-3, and sometimes 4, clients at a time, through no fault of their own, in order to make up for low reimbursement rates. More often than not, this means receiving a limited amount of true one-on-one attention, multiple visits per week and less productive appointments. Would you want to see your doctor if he/she was working with 2-3 people simultaneously? Do you think he/she would be able to perform at his/her best if this were the case? Even these in-network clinics can be costly especially with increasing co-pay amounts and deductibles.
Let us take a look at a couple of examples:
Mrs. Smith has a co-pay of $30 and saw her physical therapist 3 times each week for 6 weeks. Her total cost would be $540
for limited one-on-one care in addition to the time, energy and gas money spent for 18 appointments.
At Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz, Mrs. Smith would most likely only have 1 session per week and has a good
chance of seeing faster results.
-At 4 weeks, her total cost would be $425 ($125 initial evaluation + $100x3 for each treatment session).
-At 5 weeks, her total cost would be $525 ($125 initial evaluation + $100x4 for each treatment session).
-At the same 6 weeks, her total cost would be $625 ($125 initial evaluation + $100x5 for each treatment session), a
difference of three co-pays but time saved from many fewer appointments and money saved from fewer trips to the gas
station.
In the second example, let's say Mrs. Smith still has her $30 co-pay for in-network providers but a coinsurance split of 70/30 for
out-of-network providers. This means she is responsible for 30% of the cost of her appointments.
The math:
-Initial evaluation at Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz: $125. Mrs. Smith is reimbursed $87.5. Final cost: $37.5.
-Follow up visit at Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz: $100. Mrs. Smith is reimbursed $70. Final cost: $30.
As you can see, all visits except for the initial evaluation are the same cost as Mrs. Smith's normal co-pay amount. Couple this
with fewer total visits, and the savings in this example are multiplied significantly.
Obviously, these are not the only scenarios that exist with insurance policies, (high deductible plans also come to mind), and are meant to illustrate the potential advantages that exist under this model at Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz. If you have questions about your own policy, contact Dr. Greg Cecere and he can assist you in obtaining the details of your benefits and eligibility for physical therapy services.
