Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect at my first visit?
You should expect a relaxed and welcoming environment to promote a positive mindset for optimal healing and recovery. It will be a thorough one-on-one session with Greg which will include a discussion and detailed physical examination related to your current complaints and goals. You can also expect treatment to begin on the first day so that you can start the recovery process as soon as possible. In addition, you will be instructed in a home exercise program to accelerate healing and give you the confidence to play an active role in your recovery. What should I expect at follow up visits? You will always work with Greg as he believes in continuity of care. Most of each session will focus on treatment and techniques that only Greg can perform or you cannot reproduce at home. He does not believe that you should pay to perform exercises or techniques that can be part of a complete home exercise program. Instead, he believes that giving you an active role in your recovery is an extremely beneficial component of treatment that will build confidence and ultimately lead to your improvement. How long is each session? Each appointment is scheduled for an hour but there is flexibility depending on the circumstances of each session. How much is the investment? All appointments are $120 per 1 hour session. Adjustments are made as necessary which is reflected in the cost so 30 minute appointments are a $60 investment. Do you accept all forms of payment? Yes. Cash, check, Venmo & credit card, including flexible spending and health savings accounts, are all acceptable forms of payment. All major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) are accepted. What should I bring with me? Please bring your prescription (or referral) if you have one, your completed forms, which you can print here, and any other relevant information related to your injury. What should I wear? It is best if you wear comfortable clothing that will allow access to the area that will be evaluated and treated. This will also allow you to participate fully during each treatment session. For example, shorts would be a good choice for leg injuries and tank tops for shoulder injuries. Can I change at your office? Yes, there are men's and women's locker rooms available for changing. How often do I need to come? In most cases, one session per week or every other week is sufficient since significant progress can be made with a focused hour of treatment. This is also dependent upon compliance and consistency with any home exercise program or self treatment prescribed by Greg. There are situations when two sessions per week may be necessary especially for acute or post-operative cases as well as some chronic or persistent conditions in order to jump start the healing process. Fewer visits but longer one-on-one time is one of the ways Greg helps keep costs down for his clients along with saving time and energy. Do I need a prescription (or referral) for physical therapy? New York state allows for 'Direct Access' which means you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist directly without a prescription (or referral) for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. If you need care beyond those 10 visits or 30 days, then it is required that you obtain a prescription from a physician, podiatrist, dentist or nurse practitioner. Despite New York state allowing direct access, it is not guaranteed that all insurance companies participate and it is possible that you may not be reimbursed for treatment without a prescription. It is strongly advised that you check with your insurance plan with regard to their policies. Does Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz participate or bill for insurance? Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz is currently an out-of-network provider and does not bill for insurance. Instead, Greg will provide you with an itemized receipt/invoice and can assist you if you choose to submit a claim to your insurance plan. You should be able to print a claim form from your insurance plan's website and send that in with a copy of your receipt/invoice for reimbursement. The amount of reimbursement, or application to your deductible, will depend entirely on your particular health plan. That being said, it is your responsibility to understand the policies of your insurance plan as most but not all plans allow you to submit your own claims. Why doesn't Momentum Physical Therapy of New Paltz participate or bill for insurance? By working independently, Greg is not bound by the limitations and influence of insurance companies and their rates of reimbursement, and can put all of his energy where it belongs: helping his clients get better as fast as possible. In this model, he has the freedom to spend each hour one-on-one with his clients and provide high quality care, which often leads to faster than average results. It also means he can keep his rates quite reasonable instead of making up for low reimbursement rates from insurance companies. Therefore, the cost to Greg's clients after reimbursement, despite the higher up front cost, often end up being lower in the long term. This is especially true when adding the time, energy and gas money saved from fewer visits and faster recoveries. What injuries do you treat? As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Greg is trained as an expert in the musculoskeletal system which includes muscles, bones, joints, nerves, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, etc. Rather than look at each component separately, he is acutely aware of the interactions between these components and how to effectively address any dysfunction in a holistic manner. With this in mind, Greg primarily focuses on orthopedic and sports injuries such as sprains, strains, and post-operative rehabilitation as well as neuro-orthopedic injuries like sciatica/radiculopathy and trigger points.
